The watchman: it is often said of him that he sleeps with one eye open. The watchman does not watch over others but over himself. He is awake to his inner being but also to his attitudes in the visible universe. The closed eye calls for refocusing on oneself, while the open eye calls for right action in the world. Like Janus, turned towards the past and the present of things, he projects himself into the inside and the outside of beings.
 The closed eye watches over the invisible world, while the open eye watches over the visible world....
